This list is assembled from a variety of lists of references on computer and electronic music (prompted by one Seth C. sent me, and finding this one https://sdiy.info/wiki/Synthesizer_books). Although most of these are full books, because of the largely profit-less nature of the field there are a number of articles, manuscripts, manuals, company publications and other marginalia that are arguably just as if not more important than “legitimate” “publications.”
Because they are hard to fairly catalog in Zotero, this list does not include full issues of the Electronotes newsletter, the short lived Electronic Music magazine, Synapse, Electronics, Elektor, Electronic Music Review, Nuts and Volts, and various other trade / specialized press publications, even if they’re arguably, again, also just as important as a whole as the books and articles. Maybe I’ll add a real list of those eventually. Another list to add would be of online resources. The internet archive is a nice place to start:
https://archive.org/details/synthmanuals
https://archive.org/details/zines
https://github.com/micjamking/synth-secrets
http://www.angelfire.com/music2/theanalogcottage/articles.htm
https://monoskop.org/Central_and_Eastern_Europe_Bibliography#Electroacoustic_music brutal Euro EA list
You could write a whole dissertation on electronic music diy forums. I’ll add a list of them here eventually too.
For convenience of use I am copying the four bibliographies in this list at the top:
Basart, Ann Phillips. Serial Music: A Classified Bibliography of Writings on Twelve-Tone and Electronic Music. Westport, Conn.: Greenwood Press, 1976.
Cross, Lowell M. A Bibliography of Electronic Music. University of Toronto Press, 1967.
Davis, Deta S. Computer Applications in Music: A Bibliography. The Computer Music and Digital Audio Series. Madison, Wis: A-R Editions, 1988.
Martin, Vernon. Bibliography of Writings on Electronic Music. Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center, 1964.
The below list could be significantly expanded by merging it with the relevant entries in the above collections, but that would take a while! Someone please do it with a computer (the links above are OCR’d). Thanks.
